For Nina Wiley, shapewear is a literal lifesaver.
This summer, Wiley went viral on TikTok for claiming that a bodysuit from Kim Kardashian's Skims collection saved her from bleeding out when she was shot four times. The incident occurred earlier this year while she was waiting for a Lyft ride in Kansas City, Missouri.
"I think I got a size too small, but it’s supposed to do the job," Wiley told Jennifer Hudson during Wednesday's episode of "The Jennifer Hudson Show."
"Not only did it help with compression when I did get shot, but it completely changed where the bullet even landed in me," she continued. "The doctors were saying how the bullets could have really killed me. People die from getting shot once – I got shot four times."
Wiley still suffered a fractured pelvis and ruptured bladder from the shooting, but credits Skims for "keeping me alive."
"Especially because the ambulance took so long to get to me," Wiley said. "And doctors will tell you the first thing that they do in situations like this is apply pressure, and I already had it on lock."
Kardashian, who reposted Wiley's viral TikTok in July, appeared in a prerecorded message on "The Jennifer Hudson Show" to send well wishes.
"I loved hearing your story, and I'm just thinking of you as you continue to recover," Kardashian said in a video. "I also hear that you are pursuing a degree in criminal justice, and I wanted to say congratulations. Study hard, it's not easy. I look forward to seeing everything you're doing with this. And I sent you over some Skims products for you! I just want you to have fun today, and I'm wishing you guys all the best."
Wiley, 22, was brought to tears by Kardashian's message and gifts.
"Thank you, Kim!" Wiley said. "Just knowing that she knows my name is insane to me. Like, I'm a real person to her. To see that she went out of her way for all this – it's nice to see something so beautiful can come out of something so awful."
